World Access to Higher Education Day Returns: A Global Call to Action for Equity in Higher Education

09 Sep 2025

28 October 2025 marks the return of World Access to Higher Education Day (WAHED); a global day of action dedicated to raising awareness of inequalities in access to and success within higher education. After a three-year hiatus, WAHED is back with renewed energy, this year’s theme, “Opportunity, Innovation and Lifelong Learning”, reflecting the growing momentum behind inclusive education and the need to reimagine pathways to opportunity in a rapidly changing world.

WAHED 2025 will be marked by a flagship hybrid global conference, hosted by the University of the Western Cape and featuring leading voices in access and equity.

But WAHED 2025 is not just a one-day event—it marks the return of a global campaign aimed at driving real change in higher education. All through October, the initiative invites organisations and individuals across sectors and continents to take part by hosting their own activities under the WAHED banner. From panel discussions and workshops to awareness-raising campaigns, the goal is to spark conversations and action around access and success in higher education.

WAHED 2025 will also feature the launch of new global research on access and success in higher education, providing fresh insights to inform policy and practice

How to Get Involved

WAHED is open to anyone committed to tackling inequality in higher education—including universities, schools, NGOs, research institutes, student groups, employers, and foundations. Whether through hosting events, sharing research, or joining the online conversation, every contribution helps build a more inclusive global education system.
